Podcasts Bring Queer Listeners Closer: How Brands Can Tap In
The US landscape is diversifying, with more consumers identifying as LGBTQ+ than ever before. Over 2M Americans identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, making up a vibrant community that can’t be overlooked. 1One of the many ways to reach them is through podcasts. The queer community turns to podcasts to bond over shared experiences, strengthen their resilience, and improve their mental health.
Don’t just take our word for it. Among listeners 18+ who celebrate and acknowledge Pride Month, 66% listen to community-relevant audio, such as podcasts and music. 2 In fact, listening to a podcast with their favorite hosts can often feel like they’ve stepped into a group chat. And for LGBTQ+ listeners, the connection facilitated by queer podcast creators creates an essential extension of community in the sonic space. There’s an intimacy in hearing from podcast hosts who not only understand your life experiences, but have also lived them, fostering a connection to a host you’ve never met (though it feels like you have).
This Pride Month, and every month of the year, we’re celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and the podcasts they love.
Podcasts are a sonic connection to the LGBTQ+ community
For decades, queer communities have created spaces for support, visibility, and self-expression in response to mainstream exclusion. Podcasts have expanded those spaces, giving LGBTQ+ listeners easy access to stories, perspectives, and conversations that genuinely reflect who they are.
That sense of connection runs deep. Almost six in 10 (59%) LGBTQIA+ listeners say podcasts feel like a reflection of their values, interests, and identity. Additionally, LGBTQ+ listeners look for specific qualities in their hosts, with 78% of them saying they appreciate when hosts are authentic and uncensored, showing just how important honesty and relatability are to building trust. 3 Plus, 44% of LGBTQ+ listeners are looking for podcasts hosted by people who seem like they could be friends with in real life. 4
That trust has clear value for brands. A whopping 90% of LGBTQIA+ listeners have taken some kind of action after hearing a podcast ad, 3 making podcasts a highly effective channel for reaching this audience in a way that feels credible, relevant, and meaningful.

Our LGBTQ+-hosted shows give advertisers incredible opportunities to align with authentic voices. Some of our standout shows include:
It only makes sense that LGBTQ+ audiences enjoy topics that are as diverse as they are, with hosts discussing everything from dating fiascos, to politics, to pop culture. When you’re ready to kick off your campaign, we offer leading targeting solutions, from the first-party Pride enthusiasts audience segment, to podcast shows, to diverse podcast creators, giving you plenty of options to reach queer ears.
LGBTQ+ podcast hosts carve out space for queer stories and perspectives
LGBTQ+ hosts on the SiriusXM Podcast Network get personal, dive into the latest in news and culture, and chat with experts and celebrities. The care that hosts show each other and their guests reflects the care that queer listeners seek out in their IRL community, making the attraction to the podcast medium a very natural one.
Listeners come to explore their interests and keep coming back because of the vulnerability and candidness of these hosts. And because listeners feel uplifted and connected to queer culture when consuming podcasts, brands can tap into these positive feelings for their message to have a deeper impact.
Get on the right side of history
Despite the growing LGBTQ+ community, the current climate surrounding DE&I is shifting. Roughly two in five (39%) brand executives said they planned to reduce their spending on Pride-related marketing in 2025, compared to just 9% in 2024. 6 With organizations quietly pulling back their investment, LGBTQ+ consumers are not-so-quietly noticing.
Consumers widely believe it is important for brands to show support for the LGBTQ+ community all year. While half of the general population believes this is important, 88% of LGBTQ+ respondents feel the same. 7 Furthermore, 68% of US LGBTQ+ adults say all or most companies participate in Pride Month to boost business while just 16% believe it’s driven by genuine support. 8
The stakes are high for brands that do or don’t support LGBTQ+ communities. Four in 10 Gen Zers have stopped using or purchasing from a brand that has contradicted or reversed its DEI efforts. 9When brands scale back their efforts on Pride Month or with the LGBTQ+ community in general, they lose out on high-earning households with significant consumer power. In fact, household incomes for same-sex couples can range from $113K to $142K.
When brands speak to queer listeners by highlighting the voices that they relate to, their advertisements go further.
Do the work, reap the rewards
To see just how impactful queer-hosted podcasts can be, take a look at this success story. An auto advertiser wanted to drive lifts in unaided category awareness, brand familiarity, brand consideration, and purchase intent. To build brand awareness, they partnered with the LGBTQ+-hosted shows The Read and Vibe Check to reach an audience of Black/AA listeners ages 25-54, immersing the brand in culturally relevant conversations through podcast custom solutions and host-read ads. The campaign achieved double-digit gains 10
Unaided category awareness: +20-pts lift for The Read and +15-pts lift for Vibe Check
Brand familiarity: +17-pts lift for The Read and +22-pts lift for Vibe Check
Brand consideration: +15-pts lift for The Read and +15-pts lift for Vibe Check
Purchase intent: +15-pts lift for The Read and +35-pts lift for Vibe Check
This success story is proof that pairing high-reach media with culturally relevant, custom content boosts awareness and creates a deeper audience connection. Additionally, partnering with authentic, culturally resonant voices builds credibility and enhances emotional resonance.
