“Relational leadership empowers teams,” Jaquie Hoyos from Moroch
Nov 19, 2024Meet Jaquie Hoyos, Chief Media Officer for Moroch, where she’s been for the past five years. Bringing nearly 20 years of media experience to her role, Jaquie is well-versed in the intersection of culture, mindsets, and behaviors that drive business results. Her Hispanic upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for collaboration and relationships, values she has carried throughout her career at both holding companies and independent agencies. When she's not immersed in media and tech trends, Jaquie enjoys spending time with her husband and three children and pursuing her love of woodworking.
Jaquie sat down with Deirdre Locksley, Associate Director, Content Marketing, to share her stories, learned experience, and lessons in leadership. Give the full interview a listen to hear about her passion for helping others find the same fulfillment she has in this ever-changing industry. And then check out the highlights below.
Have a say in your career path.
Highlight: “I think that's allowed them to be more collaborative, to learn more, and to bring others along with them, because they really feel like they have a say in what their day to day looks like. They have a say in what their career path looks like. So that's a lot of what my focus is: Clearing the road and giving them the runway to find their own opportunities in their own way.” – Jaquie Hoyos
Advocate for yourself.
Highlight: “It's always been about making sure that I'm advocating for myself in a way that really allows my motivations to be what I'm chasing and what keeps me interested, versus sitting back and allowing these predetermined boxes to be what I'm following. So that's been a huge learning for me that has come from a lot of those ups and downs. And it's really taken me to where I am today.” – Jaquie Hoyos
Don’t give up.
Highlight: “It is one of those things where you have to make sure that you're not giving up after the first bump in the road. And, for me, that was really knowing my motivation because I was so confident in what was going to motivate me. I was able to continue to push until I found somebody that saw the opportunity that I saw in front of me.” – Jaquie Hoyos
Let your contributions motivate you.
Highlight: “I believe so much that motivation and contribution are so closely tied. So, if you can see the contribution that you're having on other people, on an agency, on a client's business, that will keep you motivated in a very different way and vice versa. If you know that you're motivated in a certain area, you make a much bigger contribution.” – Jaquie Hoyos
Embrace different ways of doing things.
Highlight: “I'm willing to give my team space to do things their own way. I think it's important that we recognize that diversity doesn't just come in the form of color and culture. It comes in the form of thinking and how we do things. And I love being able to see somebody attack a problem or an opportunity in a different way than I would.” – Jaquie Hoyos
Give people the benefit of the doubt.
Highlight: “I think it's so critical for people to be able to not make assumptions about somebody’s intentions or somebody’s ability just because they haven't done something before. But really allowing folks around you to have that benefit of the doubt, especially in a virtual world… I really think that's hugely important to not make the wrong assumption and to take a step back and, more often than not, to be giving those around you the benefit of the doubt.” – Jaquie Hoyos
Focus on relationships.
Highlight: “Relationships have been such a big piece of what has shaped my time in the industry. And those deep human conversations that I've had with peers and colleagues and folks that I've been doing business with for years—those are the things that I remember the most. And those relationships are things that will last well beyond our careers because it is such a small industry.” – Jaquie Hoyos
